Haitian Assistance

If you weren't in class last Sunday, Reggie shared that a former employee of his, Rocky, is from Haiti. He called to ckeck on him and he hadn't been able to reach his family. He called Reggie the next day, upset, and said his family was ok for the time being and Reggie gave him money to wire to them.

A little about him - he's only been here for 5 or 6 years - his dad came here to play football at one of the Universities in Florida and had Rocky, who was raised by his grandmother, brought over. I don't think he ever knew his mother. He went to Walker High School and apparently is a good football player. He must not have finished school because Reggie was always pushing him to get his GED but he was determined to get his diploma. After multiple tries, he passed the exit exam and is now at Bevill.

Reg wanted to give the class an opportunity to give something to wire his family and will be taking any donations tomorrow since some people wanted another week. Reggie will make it clear to Rocky where and why the money is being donated and make sure his family knows this as well. I thought this was a good way to give a little to an individual that we could directly help in addition to giving to our Southern Baptist efforts which will help many and with both of these options we know the money is going directly to where it's meant to go.
